JQI Student Receives Outstanding Graduate Student Award
JQI graduate student Jacob Bringewatt has received the Board of Visitors Outstanding Graduate Student Award from the College of Computer, Mathematical and Natural Sciences at UMD. The award acknowledges scholarly and research excellence of a graduate student in the college and comes with a $5,000 prize.
Gorshkov Elected Optica Fellow
JQI Fellow Alexey Gorshkov was named a 2023 fellow of Optica, the organization formerly known as the Optical Society of America.
JQI Graduate Student Is Finalist for Hertz Fellowship
Elizabeth Bennewitz, a first-year physics graduate student at JQI and QuICS, has been named a finalist for a 2022 Hertz Fellowship. Out of more than 650 applicants, Bennewitz is one of 45 finalists with a chance of receiving up to $250,000 in support from the Fannie and John Hertz Foundation. The fellowships provide up to five years of funding for recipients pursuing a Ph.D.
Taylor Receives Department of Commerce Gold Medal Award
JQI Fellow Jake Taylor has been recognized by the federal government for his role in expanding U.S. policy and efforts in the fiercely competitive field of quantum information science. Taylor, who is also a physicist at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), is the recipient of the 2020 Gold Medal Award from the Department of Commerce.
Gorshkov Elected APS Fellow
JQI Fellow Alexey Gorshkov has been elected as a Fellow of the American Physical Society (APS). He is one of 163 APS members to join the select group this year.
