Researchers Spy Finish Line in Race for Majorana Qubits
In 2010, JQI researchers proposed a method to create Majorana quasiparticles, which have been suggested as a desirable way to make qubits. Since then, researchers have been steadily exploring their idea, but practical demonstrations have proven elusive. Recent results from researchers at Microsoft have made JQI Fellow Sankar Das Sarma and JQI Co-Director Jay Sau optimistic that Majorana qubits are finally in sight. In a new paper, they analyzed the current technology and proposed an experiment to demonstrate Majorana qubits.
